Scientific and psychological research has shown that trauma has a dramatic and negative impact on the development and outcome of families and individuals who have experienced adversities such as:

- Domestic violence
- Community/gang violence
- Poverty
- Oppression/Discrimination
- Incarceration
- Sexual assault/abuse
- Human trafficking

- Homelessness

Or Growing up in a home with:
Substance abuse
- Mental Health problems
- Parental Separation
- Domestic violence

Experiencing trauma has shown to increase the likelihood of:
- Medical and psychological problems
- Social deficits
- Substance abuse
- Poverty
- Impacts to intellectual capacity

The risk factors of trauma contribute to negative outcomes such as cycles of violence, poverty, and oppression on both the individual and the community. By providing inclusive, culturally appropriate and accessible trauma focused services to children, youth, and adults, ECLI seeks to heal the cycles which have prevented these individuals and our community as a whole from thriving.

Relationship building:
The relationship-building model is grounded in the belief that individuals who have experienced trauma often lack healthy, stable interpersonal connections, and that it is the lack of these connections that keep our clients feeling helpless or stuck in their current situations. The relationship between our team of providers, the client and our community of support is the defining factor in seeing positive change and outcomes within our client’s lives. At ECLI we treat the symptoms of trauma by identifying and healing the root causes. Once stabilization and a safe space is created for our clients, long-term, individually tailored, relationship centered services are delivered.
